| Abstract | This study presents an experimental and modeling-based performance assessment of a frameless, curtain-wall-type building-integrated photovoltaic and thermal system under real operating conditions. Specifically, eight modules (each 1 m2 in area and constituting 8 m2 in total area) were installed on the south-facing façade of the zero-energy performance test house and operated from 1 September to 8 November 2025 to replicate winter operations. Field measurements were recorded of vertical-plane irradiance, ambient temperature, inlet/outlet fluid temperatures, flow rate, and inverter-based power generation at 1-min intervals. Under clear-sky conditions, the system achieved peak power and thermal energy collection values of 1100 and 9049.8 W, respectively. Moreover, the highest cumulative power generation and thermal energy collection over the entire monitoring period were 87.9 and 119.6 kWh, respectively. For evaluations of the prediction accuracy, four electrical models (namely, nominal operating cell temperature-based, Faiman, Sandia array performance, and Skoplaki) and two thermal models (ISO 9806 and Hottel–Whillier) were implemented and compared under identical boundary conditions. Additionally, a novel physics-based coupled model for cell and outlet fluid temperature was proposed and validated. This model, explicitly factoring multilayer conduction and cell–tube–fluid heat exchange, achieved the lowest cumulative errors of 6.3% and 1.3% for electricity and heat, respectively, with a coefficient of determination (R2) of 0.975. Notably, although the experimental period is limited to the winter season, the results demonstrate that resolving internal heat-transfer mechanisms improves the predictive accuracy of building-integrated photovoltaic and thermal systems significantly. |
