Abstract | Due to the energy consumption issue, pre-heaters in energy recovery ventilators have not been installed mandatorily in Korean apartments. However, to keep comfortable indoor environment quality, it is important to prevent condensation and frost occurrence in an energy exchanger core, since those problems can cause fungus growth. This study suggests an alternative pre-heater based on a thermoelectric heat-pump module, which recovers heat from exhaust air to pre-heat outdoor air. A simulation-based on energy balance equations was performed in the winter season of Seoul. The proposed pre-heating method indicated 8.2 % less energy consumption, compared to the pre-heating method with an electric heating coil. |
